Trinity

“Almighty and everlasting God, who hast given unto us thy servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity; We beseech thee that thou wouldest keep us stedfast in this faith, and evermore defend us from all adversities, who livest and reignest, one God, world without end. Amen.”

“Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” St. John 3.4-7

The story goes that one day St. Augustine was walking along the beach trying to figure out the nature of the Holy Trinity. As he walked along, he came upon a little boy who had dug a hole in the sand next to the shore. With his tiny hands the boy was carrying water from the ocean and pouring it in the little hole. St. Augustine asked, “What are you doing, my child?” The boy replied, “I want to put all of the water of the ocean into this hole.” So St. Augustine asked him, “But is it possible for all of the water of this great ocean to fit in this little hole?” And the boy asked him in return, “If the water of the ocean cannot be contained in this little hole, then how can the Infinite Trinitarian God be embraced in your mind?” And with that the child disappeared.
